IPL For Skin Rejuvenation

IPL skin rejuvenation is designed to help reduce the appearance of a number of specific skin problems. If you’re concerned about sun damage, pigmentation, acne, or fine lines and wrinkles, this treatment could help restore the condition of your skin.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment provides short bursts of high intensity light to stimulate collagen and volumise the skin. Clients often require a course of treatments to rejuvenate the skin tone and improve the condition of the skin. It is an ideal treatment for sun-damaged and tired skin. As well as being able to reduce the appearance of sun spots and damage, it is also effective at softening and reducing the appearance of acne, rosacea, facial thread veins and pigmentation spots.

IPL For Acne

IPL is an ideal drug-free treatment for mild and moderate inflammatory acne, for which we get remarkable results. Acne is very often caused by internal factors such as hormonal imbalance, stress and food allergies. Ideally, the treatment should be combined with methods to deal with the underlying problem in order to clear the acne permanently.

This is a wonderful treatment for clearing an annoying spot or boil, especially before an important event where looking good is essential. In this case it would be best to use the treatment a week before the special date. It is also great for anyone with permanent acne, as they will greatly benefit from regular treatments.

The innovative and advanced IPL system filters light from a flash lamp in two targeted ways to ensure that only light with the appropriate wavelength is allowed to reach the skin to prevent future acne. Haemoglobin, the red pigment in the blood, absorbs this light and heats up in the fine blood vessels that supply the sebaceous glands. This causes minor injury to the sebaceous glands, which decreases the overproduction of oil that leads to acne.

This solution to dealing with acne is easy and essentially painless, as any potentially harmful wavelengths are filtered out by our advanced IPL system.

How does IPL work on the skin pigmentation?

When treating unwanted areas of pigmentation, targeted areas momentarily absorb the light and become hot, but not for long enough to burn. This heat breaks down the pigmentation into tiny particles which then either rise to the skin’s surface as scabs, which are exfoliated away naturally within 1-2 weeks, or the particles are filtered away through the lymphatic system in your body.

How does IPL work on facial thread veins?

When treating thread veins (or other vascular conditions), the light is absorbed by the oxyhaemoglobin in the blood within the vein, causing the blood to coagulate and the thread vein to break up into particles that can be filtered away naturally through the lymphatic system in your body.

How does IPL work on fine lines and wrinkles?

When treating fine lines and wrinkles, the light stimulates the growth of collagen which makes the skin feel plumper and more youthful.

PLEASE NOTE: You must be at least 18 years of age to be treated.

FAQ – IPL acne and pigmentation

What is the IPL skin rejuvenation procedure? Following an initial discussion with our IPL practitioner to clearly establish your expectations, we will check your medical history with you to ensure there are no reasons for you not to have the treatment. We will ask you to sign a consent form to confirm that you have understood the potential benefits and risks associated with this treatment.

With your well-being in mind, we will always perform a patch test (an IPL treatment on a very small area of skin) prior to a full treatment, to rule out any sensitivities or adverse effects you may have in response to the treatment. Following this, we can then book a convenient time for you to return for your next and full session, normally within 48 hours.

Will it hurt?  As no anaesthetic is required and individuals vary in their thresholds of pain, it is difficult to predict how much, if any, pain a particular client will feel when he or she receives the treatment. To date, patients have describe a wide variety of sensations from a slight pinch to how skin feels after too much sun exposure.

What will my skin look like after the treatment? Your skin may look slightly flushed. This mild ‘glow’ will usually disappear after 24 hours. In some rare cases some swelling or superficial bruising or crusting may occur whilst the skin is rejuvenating to reveal a brighter and fresher new you!

Can I have a treatment while my skin is tanned? No. We prefer to treat the skin when it is closest to its natural colour. Any sun exposure should be avoided eight weeks prior to the treatments, and fake tanning should be avoided four weeks prior to treatment.

How many treatments are required? This really depends on your skin condition. Improvement can be seen with every treatment, although a course of four treatments about four weeks apart generally gives the best results.

How do I take care of my skin following the treatments? Most patients will not require post treatment care. You should, however, completely avoid sun exposure for up to a week and then use a sunscreen with a minimum spf of 50 on the areas treated, as your skin will be extra sensitive for a few weeks following the treatment.

Please note that our IPL photo rejuvenation system is not suitable for all skin tones especially darker ones. Please contact us as we can suggest alternatives depending on the issue.

We provide our clients with Pre and Post IPL skin rejuvenation sheets for a comprehensive guide to the dos and don’ts of the treatment.
